Techno Hippie

I was on the subway with Shaggy this weekend and some guy yelled at us. It was late at night and my husband was tired, he had woken up early for work. He has going to take a nap so we both pulled out our iPods, so he's have music to sleep to and so I wouldn't get bored with no one to talk to. We don't usually listen to music when we travel together, just when we wants to sleep or when I need some space (I don't like crowds 0.o) So this guy yells "look at the hippies with their precious technology!" He leaves the subway, but hits the subway window on his way out.

I was really upset and shaken at first. I love my iPod, but not the point that I don't talk to people. I make an effort to be social, even though I find it difficult.

At first the thought of hippies and technology confused me. When I think of hippies I think of people living off the land in communes. But then I realized that I spin, weave, knit and crochet. I make my own clothes and mod clothes as well. But I'm also a huge geek. So I decided to claim the title of techno hippie and make it a positive thing.

I think I think too much.

Tinier Me

I know, it's been awhile. I'm trying this, again, for the 50 millionth time. :/

I love casual gaming. I really love browser based casual games as they tend to actually work on my computers. I'm not running windows on either of my machines now and I don't like to have to steal Shaggy's computer for games. I've just started playing a game called Tinier Me. It's kinda like Gaia Online but newer so it's not so crowded. It's not got as much in the way of features but people seem friendly, if not young (not that you see everyone's age. I'm going based on writing style alone on most people.) I thought the amount of young people would bug me, but since I started school last fall it doesn't seem to matter much anymore. I can pass for 18 apparently. (It's the blue hair, I swear it is!)

On of the features of this site is that you get in game currency for making a diary entry. I made a new years resolution to journal more on and off line. I really want to succed at this as it is something that I find brings balance to my life when I take the time to do it. Strangly it would seem that in game currency is the carrot I need to get writing more. Yeah, I know, it's sad, but I guess it doesn't matter if it works.

I'll try to cross post most of it so you dont have to join the game to read, oh faithful readers. But I think some of you would get a kick out of the game. If you decide to play friend me. I'm Sabriel Moonstar over there, like always. :P

I'm still alive! Really I am!

Happy icon!I know it's be a really really long time since I posted anything. But I am still alive, really I am. I'm just not the most timely blogger.

I think that if I had started off with a different blog format, a more Mac friendly blog format I'd have stuck to it more. Blogger doesn't play nice with Safari, and I'd rather not change browsers just for one page (not that Firefox isn't a nice browser. I just prefer Safari.)

I also find the Blogger web editor really annoying to use. It takes forever to do anything even on the fastest of computers. And well I'm not always the most patient of people, especially when it comes to technology.

I have the feeling that if Mobile Me and iWeb were around when I started my blog I'd have blogged more often. But they weren't and I really don't want to move, lest I lose the few readers I have. That and Blogger is really easy for other apps and sites to access.

I love cloud computing. But I love it more when I have nice desktop apps to access the cloud. Mobile Me syncs with my Mail, Address Book, iCal & iPhoto. My notes live in Evernote (I *heart* Evernote. It's like my brain is stored on a web server somewhere!) If I am to use something often it has to live on my dock or it's not gonna happen! I'm just to disorganized to function any other way!

So I am trying a new desktop client for blogging. It's called Flock and it's more like what would happen if a web browser mated with a feed reader. It's yet another Mozilla based web browser, billing itself as a "social web browser". You can keep track of a variety of web based apps like Facebook, Twitter, G-mail and the like (not that I use 90% of the apps it keeps track of, but it's nice to have options.)

It's still a web browser, and that kinda annoys me. I still want to do my browsing in Safari but I think this will be a good way to keep web apps and what I am currently reading on the web seperate. I'll mainly be using this program for blogging though so if it sucks at the it'll get the axe. (I am trying to keep the amount of apps on my mac to a minimum) So we'll wait and see.

I'm gonna try to post some stuff to bring the blog up to speed about where I have been for the last 9 months. So keep an eye out for that! :D

Just a quick note about the forums

The forums have no officially been taken offline. Anything that was there is backed up, but I don't anyone should have need of it.

Bartman pointed out a long time ago that they had gotten full of spam, but I wanted the forums to be up in the event anyone actually used them.

Not sure why picked today to pull them, it just felt right.

Thanks to anyone who posted and had fun there. Hopefully this is another step in the very very slow revamp of the site. :)
